GCh. Rhetorical

"Plato"
1998 Chestnut Westphalian Stallion, standing 16.3 hands.
2007 Breeding Fee: $1,500

The best person to ask for information regarding Rhetorical ("Plato" at home) would be Legacy's eventing trainer, Andrea Lee. A former working student, Andrea has been training and competing Rhetorical since she first came to Legacy. She says she knew from the first time she schooled the big chestnut stallion that she wanted to take him on as her serious competition mount. "Plato's a lot of fun," she says fondly. "It's true that he is a lot of horse--he's big, he's fit, he's powerful, and he's very bold. But he's eager to please and very trainable." She says she can see how a horse like him might take advantage of a timid rider, but she finds him a great challenge for her more experienced students. "He's by no means bad, and he's certainly not dangerous for a rider who knows his or her way around a course. Just... consider that you're sitting on more than half a ton of muscle primed to lift itself and its rider over solid four-foot-five-inch obstacles."

Owner Lauri Kiger thinks Andrea is a little too cautious with the big horse. "If I'm going to worry about one of my stallions, it's not going to be Plato," she says. "If you respect him, he respects you, and he's really very enjoyable to work with.

But Lauri always says you can judge a horse by its offspring. How are Plato's holding up? "We love Plato babies," Andrea confesses. "We don't own any right now, but there are two fillies out there. His first daughter, Rubina L, was on our string as a junior hunter for awhile, and she was fantabulous. You couldn't ask for a more perfect Westphalian filly: flashy, willing, with a beautiful temperament. His other filly, Anonymous V, was bred by Veerle Delgado. We see her fairly regularly at events, and she's turning out lovely as well." Will we be seeing more Plato babies in the future? "Most definitely," says Lauri. "I want one for myself!"
