The Flying Dutchman

2002 Palomino Dutch Warmblood Stallion, standing 17.3 hands.
2007 Breeding Fee: $1500

When "Dutchman" arrived at Legacy, heads all over the property snapped in his direction. For several days, staff, riders, trainers, deliverymen, and any other unfortunates who happened to set foot on Legacy's property had been harassed with Lauri's exciting news: Cass, an acquaintance from the show circuit, sadly had to give up her show string--and she had agreed to allow her palomino stallion to become a Legacy resident.

As soon as he stepped foot off the trailer, Lauri's excitement spread like wildfire.

The big (yes, he stands just a hair under a whopping 18 hands), golden (we're talking 24 karat) stallion is what many would consider to be their dream horse. Not only does his striking and unusual colour draw the eyes of even the rare reluctant admirer, he has remarkable talent for such a young horse, coupled with temperament to die for. In short, Lauri was correct in her bragging.

"He's pretty much amazing," confesses 11-year-old Haylie Kiger. "I didn't think I could ever find a horse who could hold a candle to my Katja, but I love old Dutchie. I even ride him sometimes, for fun, and it's a blast. As long as I don't fall off--that would be a long way down! But he would never let me get hurt if he could avoid it."

ee: Dutchman is homozygous recessive for the Extension gene, meaning he cannot sire a dark foal (black/bay) out of a chestnut-based mare.

The Flying Dutchman's stud book is currently open.
